My eyes are bigger than my apartment
Here is yet another project I won't get around to this weekend. Or next weekend. Or possibly the weekend after that, either. Why bother, when I haven't done anything with it for almost two months now?
I want to take these gorgeous interior shutters that I picked up at Demolition Depot in Harlem and turn them into bifold doors for my cabinets. That's actually a cool salvage project that has been on my mind for more than two years now, but it took me this long to even move on it.
It seems I am an ideas person more than a woman of action. And I have the closets to prove it.
I have bolts of fabric meant to reupholster chairs. I have 10 pounds of pillow stuffing for all the throw pillows I will make. I have cans of paint for the chairs I will refinish, and then another five giant decks of paint strips sitting on my mantel waiting for me to pick a color for the living room. There are wood scraps, glass and sheet metal remnants, and one entirely new, never used router.
I have plans, intentions, hopes and dreams, and yet no time to execute them and no motivation to clear the calendar. I envy people who consistently work on their homes until they're done, and then sit back and enjoy them. I DON'T EVEN OWN THIS PLACE and I'm stessed about making it the way I want it!
Tell me I'm not the only one who goes through this angst every single weekend.

You're not the only one...and no is EVER "finished" with their homes. We're tinker'ers. Keep tinkin. You'll get to the shutters eventually...maybe even...an hour from now.
I'm running a contest on my blog with a prize so that people will motivate ME to get some stuff done. Occasionally...the steam runs out.
Alex, Be very careful with those painted shutters as they may be painted with lead paint. Don't start sanding or scraping the paint off of those until you know for sure. You don't want to end up in the hospital with lead poisoning.
You might be able to coat them with a clear sealer if you like how they look now but I do not know for sure.
Don't worry, Jim. I just plan to clean them up and paint them to match the cabinets. That will seal in the lead paint.
It is not just you. I am one of those people who will look at ANYTHING, and think, I can do something with that. Hence, I have a collection of old windows, doors, chairs, lamps - I am so close to becoming a junkyard!
Alex, you simply cannnot paint these doors. have them dipped/stripped for about 80 bucks a door and refinish with stain....would it go with your kitchen ??
If it any consolation..... I openined up two previosly boarde up up window openings in my living room and have had gaping holes open for 3 months as i search for a pair or period windows to place in the openings....this stuff takes time!

Hey RP -- they're for the living room electronics cabinets, not the kitchen. So I need to paint them to match the white cabinets.
But just to be clear, the ones on the right are painted like the others when you flip them over. These things are not in stellar shape, by any means. And they will look amazing all cleaned up and painted white as the perfect architectural detail in the living room.
Besides, they're interior shutters. They would have often been painted.
I get it, facing the same thing actually with the windows I'm doing. I could reuse one, made of beutiful quater sawn oak, but it wont match the room, and I'm not up for striping the rest... I'd say its still worth dipping them , becuase preping them youself will be endless and when they are dipped, they really comeout great , all thats left is finish sanding ... good luck!

I too went through this lag in decorating. I purchased 10 50lb. burlap coffee bags with the intention of using them on my walls. I made my kitchen re-make using old coffee pots and thought this would be great...........Well, they sit here. What can I do with them? Does anyone have any ideas?
Barbara,
I have an idea for those coffee bags...put them on your walls!!! You had an inspiration, it's a great idea, don't let go of it. :-)
And to all...I too have "projects" all over my house. I've come to terms with the possibility that some of them may never be finished (or started, in some cases). I'm beginning to think the finding, buying, and planning is at least as important as the doing and completing. Let's give ourselves a break...we'll be "collectors" of some things and "repurposers" of others.
Joy to all,
